Headlines...

Some of today's headlines that caught my attention.



DCF Northeast Florida Region Director David Abramowitz, Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown and Edward Waters College president Nathaniel Glover, Jr. acknowledge the gathered crowd as they hang a plaque in the Schell-Sweet Community resource Center on the Edward Waters College Campus Thursday afternoon. Representatives of local and state organizations wrapped up the Community of Hope event at Edward Waters College Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2013 with speakers at the Milne Auditorium on the school's campus. The group, organized by the Department of Children and Families, was seeking solutions to deal with the city's highest rates of poverty, health problems, crime and unemployment found in the 32209 zip code. 'Great investment' being made in 32209 ZIP code's future

They spent Thursday morning talking about their largely impoverished neighborhoods on Jacksonville’s Northwest side and what changes need to be made to make their families safe, healthy and successful.
They spent the afternoon getting fired up about making those changes.
“I feel a lot of energy,” said David Abramowitz, Northeast region director for the state Department of Children and Families, which is leading the “Community of Hope” initiative.
